Certification Assistance

I'm very familiar with the FCC radio certification process. I have taken about twenty different devices through various aspects of the FCC process. I have a good relationship with two test labs in the USA that can handle the entire process from testing to filing of the paperwork. If your product uses a radio system I can help guide you through the regulations and suggest a design strategy that will be easy and low cost to certify.

​I'm also familiar with other kinds of testing, CE, UL, and others.

Asian Parts Sourcing

I have always manufactured finished units in the USA, though it makes sense to source simple components directly from Asia.

Whether your application needs custom metal parts like screws and springs, or if you need custom electrical components like motors, I have been sourcing these for years directly from China. I'm pretty good at finding and evaluating factories and suppliers that are reliable and easy to communicate with.

Crowdfunding, Kickstarter, Indiegogo

I have run four Kickstarter campaigns raising a total of nearly $400,000 between 2014 and 2017. We can discuss the suitability of using Kickstarter or another crowdfunding platform for your project and I can probably share some tips on running a successful campaign.

Patents, Intellectual Property

I can't give legal advice as I'm not an attorney or patent agent, but I do hold seven patents. I've involved real patent attorneys on a couple of them and several I've handled all on my own.

I'm happy to share my experience and thoughts on the process. This may help point you in the right direction to get solid answers from a real qualified attorney.

Product Packaging

I have designed packaging for a few products. Simple paper boxes and tent cards, UPC codes and product marking. I can do simple graphics though it's not my favorite kind of work. I can help put you in touch with packaging companies I've already worked with.

I've never done vacuum formed packaging or clam shells but they're fairly simple. I'm sure there's something I could do to assist there.

Totally Random

I've worked on high end drones and would love to work on more projects. I've been flying DJI camera drones for a while and played with FPV racing drones a bit. I'm also into r/c cars and airplanes.

I'm a private pilot. I'll barter design time to borrow your airplane. I once prototyped a camera pod that attaches to the gear strut on a Cessna 150.

Amateur rocketry is awesome. I'd love to work on the electronics for a rocket. I once hacked an altimeter and display into one of our Wink robots - it was included as payload in a high altitude balloon project for middle school kids and achieved about 110,000 ft altitude.

Back in the day I was into car stereo. I'm familiar with automotive electrical and CAN bus.
